JACOB P. DICK

Jacob P. Dick was born Peter and Wilhelmina Ortmann Dick on March 4, 1896 near Marion, S. D.

During the time of the First World War he sensed his need of personal salvation, receiving Christ Jesus as personal Savior in 1916. He was baptized and received into the membership of the Bethesda Mennonite Church of Marion by Rev. D. P. Tieszen on June 16, 1918.

He was married to Mary Wiens on Nov. 20, 1919. To this union were born five sons, two of whom died in infancy. After their marriage they moved to a farm located five miles west and one-half mile south of Marion where they lived for nine years. From this place they moved to a farm located one mile south and four and one-half miles west of Marion. Father retired and they moved into the town of Marion in 1963.

Father and mother transferred their membership to the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church at Marion on Sept. 22, 1933. He served as a member of the church board from 1935 to 1942. He was also active as a Sunday school teacher during most of his years as a member of the E. M. B. Church.

Father became ill in December of 1966. His illness became more severe a year later and as a result he was in and out of the hospital several times. His illness was due to a malignant tumor on the spinal column. He was taken to the Freeman Hospital on Aug. 16 and passed away there on Sept. 9, 1968, at the age of 72 years, six months and five days.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and John, and two sisters, Minnie and Elizabeth. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Dick of Marion; three sons, Garvin and wife Marjorie, Delbert and wife Helen, both of rural Marion, and Marlow of Auburn, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Katie Berg of the Bethany Home of Sioux Falls, S. D.; and eight grandchildren.
