JACOB DICK

Jacob J. Dick of Clearbrook. B.C. passed away on August 9. He was born in Lichtfelde. Russia on April 19, 1904. In 1919 he moved to Alexanderkron where he married Anna Barg in June 1925. As a young man he accepted Jesus as his Saviour. He began evangelistic work in 1926, including in a concentration camp. In 1933 the family left Russia for India, where they began work in the Hyderabad area under MB Missions. He was ordained to the gospel ministry on May 15, 1940 in the Coaldale (Alta.) MB Church He served three missionary terms in India between 1933 and 1957, then served as chaplain in the Vancouver Central City Mission for 10 years. In 1974 he returned to India for six weeks to minister to the church. In 1976 his wife Anna passed away. A year later he married Mary Olfert Doerksen. He passed away two days before a planned visit to the Soviet Union. He is survived by his wife Mary; four daughters: Helga and husband Philip Good of Birch Bay. Wash., Helen and husband Walter Friesen of Portland. Ore., Margaret Wiebe of Corvallis. Ore., Elizabeth Thompson of Quesnel. B.C.; step-daughter Irene and husband Paul Schmor of Delta, B.C.; sons and wives: Harold and Bernice of Los Gatos. CA, Paul and Marilyn of Bainbridge Island, Wash, William and Violet of Hesston, KS; step-sons John and Nancy Doerksen of New Westminster, B.C. and Henry and Laurene Doerksen of Port Coquitlam. B.C.; 23 grandchildren and one great- grandson.
