BUHLER, KANS. PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH

Buhler, Kans. — One of the early Mennonite immigrants to this community from Russia, Mrs. Elizabeth Dick, 86, passed away at the Bethel Home for Aged at Newton on Feb. 22. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Hebron church, of which she was a member. She is survived by three daughters, five sons, a sister, Mrs. Anna Balzer of Inman, 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

ELIZABETH PENNER DICK

Elisabeth Penner Dick was born on Dec. 14, 1863, in the village of Elizabethal in South Russia. She came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Penner, in 1874 with a number of other families and settled near what is now Buhler, Kansas.

She was baptized on Oct. 15, 1880, and received into the membership of the Hebron Mennonite church east of Buhler. On March 13, 1883, she was united in holy matrimony to Rev. Jacob B. Dick.

Bro. Dick served as a minister in the Hebron church from 1899 until the time of his death on March 29, 1917. During this time Mrs. Dick was his constant helper and was always concerned about the work of the church and the work of her husband in the church. They were privileged to live and work together in their married life for 34 years.

For the past 32 years Mrs. Dick has lived as a widow. In 1917 she moved to Newton and transferred her membership to the First Mennonite church there. In 1942 she returned to live in Buhler and again placed her membership in the Hebron church, of which she remained a member until her death.

Her husband, three children, one daughter-in-law, one grandchild, and one-great grandchild have preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure one sister, Mrs. Anna Balzer, Inman,: three daughters, Mrs. A. J. Nachtigal, Halstead, Mrs. P. M. Lohrentz, Inman, and Miss Bertha Dick, Los Angeles, Calif.; five sons, David P. and Dietrich H., Buhler, Henry, Newton, Herbert, Hutchinson, and Arthur, Los Angeles, Calif.: three daughters-in-law, two sons- in-law, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends,

On February 22 at 6:00 in the evening at the Bethesda Home for Aged, her Master came with the call for which she had long waited. She attained the age of 86 years, two months, and eight days.
