MRS. ANNA DICK
Anna Plett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Plett, was born in Russia (Hirschau) March 19, 1870. The first 21 years of her life were spent there, and her schooling was obtained there also. When she was 19 years old her mother passed away at the early age of 43. Two years later the father with his 11 children came to America and settled in Mt. Lake, Minn.
In December 1894 at the age of 24 mother accepted Christ as her own personal Saviour under the able ministry of Evangelist Peter Wedel, and on Ascension Day 1895, she was baptized upon her faith in Christ by Rev. Henry Voth and received into the membership of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Mt. Lake.
It was there that she met George C. Dick and was married to him in 1896. The new home was established at Mt. Lake, and they lived there about six years, then moved to Canada. Some Montana and in 1920 our parents came to Reedley, Calif. where residence has been retained till now.
Many joys and sorrows were shared together. Among the joys were the additions to the family circle of 12 children, five boys and seven girls. Two little boys died in infancy. One of the outstanding sorrows experienced was in California when out father began suffering from a heart ailment and passed away on July 20, 1931. He was greatly needed and missed but for 25 years mother bravely carried on alone with the help of her children. She was always a staunch prayer warrior and had great concern for the salvation and welfare of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On May 2, 1949, mother established her residence in the home for the aged in Reedley, Calif. She enjoyed the loving care of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Jost and the staff of workers during the years they managed the "Home" and equally as well since Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiebe have been there.
Mother enjoyed good health most of her life. On June 9,1956, at 7:00 p. m. she suffered a stroke while sitting on the lawn swing at the Home with some of her friends. For one week she was tenderly cared for in the hospital section of the Home, and at 10:45 p. m., Saturday, June 16, 1956, she peacefully passed away to go to a better home. She reached the age of 86 years, two months and 27 days.
Those who will especially miss her are her three sons, Claus G. Dick, Burbank, Calif., George G. Dick, Taft, Calif., and Otto Dick, Eureka, Calif.; seven daughters, Tina, Mrs. John Wiebe, Edmonton, Alberta, Mary, Mrs. P. J. Peters, Langley, Wash., Anna, Mrs. Rempel, Manteca, Calif., Martha, Mrs. John Kroeker, Merced, Calif., Hilda, Mrs. Otto Heinrich, Chouchilla [sic Chowchilla], Calif., Susie, Mrs. Jack Wolfe, Reedley, and Rosie, Mrs. R. C. Nickel, Reedley; two daughters-in-law, six sons-in-law; 36 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Abraham A. Plett, Abbotsford, B. C., and David Plett, Santa Clara, Calif.; three sisters, Sarah, Mrs. Peter Andres, and Helen, Mrs. David Andres of Aldergrove, B. C., Gertrude, Mrs. Gossen [sic Goosen], Marion, South Dakota, and other relatives and friends.
Our mother loved her Lord and Saviour very much and spent much time each day in prayer. Her chief concern to the last was that all her children would be prepared to meet in Heaven. She received great joy and comfort in reading and claiming the promises in God's Word and experienced many answers to her prayers. She had such great faith and would often say "I prayed about it and you'll see it will be all right." She had many favorite portions of Scripture but during the last months she often referred to the 23rd Psalm. Among her favorite songs were "He the Pearly Gates Will Open" and "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone." — The Children.
