Mrs. Katherine Deckert

Mrs. Katherine Unruh Deckert was born at Marion, So. Dak., in 1882. She spent her youth in that vicinity.

On August 26, 1900, she was baptized on the confession of her faith by Elder Christian Kaufman. On Nov. 23, 1905, she was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Gerhard L. Deckert by Rev. Dietrich P. Tieszen. To this union were born eight children; two daughters, Hulda and Dora, and six sons, of whom three preceded her in death. Two surviving sons, Joseph and Edward, are at home, while Alvin has established his own home.

In the fall of 1910 the family moved to the unsettled prairies of eastern Montana, where they have lived ever since.

Several times during her life she was very seriously ill. Especially on Aug. 24, 1911, when the doctor in Glendive was notified. Glendive was 50 miles distant and had to be reached by team. The doctor said she was saved only by Providence, faith and prayer. During the past eight years she suffered from high blood pressure. She always cheerfuly [sic] went about her duties until Friday, Feb. 18, 1938. When arising she felt ill and spent most of her forenoon in bed. After helping a little with the dinner she said the family should eat, as she did not feel well enough to eat, and returned to bed. After about ten minutes her husband called her. Her silence brought him to her bedside, when he saw that she had passed away.

She reached the age of about 55 years. Due to the destruction of the home of her parents by fire the complete record of her birth has been lost.

She was a loving wife and mother, always looking to the welfare of her loved ones and concerned about the spiritual welfare of the community.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and 5 children, three grandchildren, two brothers, Andrew Unruh of Richey, Mont., and Henry Unruh of Dolton, S. D., and one sister, Mrs. Abe P. Unruh of Richey.

Though we are greatly bereaved we are comforted with the assurance that she entered into the rest that remaineth for God's people. Hebrew 4;9.

The pall bearers were Ben A. Richert, John Baese, Joe Grabe, Henry Schoenwald, Dave Schultz and Ed. Hellworth.

Funeral services were held Feb. 21.
