Alvin C. Deckert, 81, of North Newton, died July 18 at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for July 21 at Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton, with Darrell Fast and Vernon Lohrentz officiating. Burial is in Restlawn Gardens of Memory. A native of Marion Junction, S. D., Deckert had farmed 52 years in Montana. He had lived in North Newton since 1982. Survivors include his wife, the former Annie L. Sawatzky; two sons, Kenneth of San Jose, Calif., and Marion of North Newton; one daughter, Alison Hiebert of Bluffton, Ohio; one brother, Edward Deckert of Glendive, Mont.; two sisters, Hulda Senner of Glendive, Mont., and Doris Goosen of Richey, Mont.; and four grandchildren.

Alvin C. Deckert

Alvin C. Deckert, 81, 509 Bluestem, North Newton, a retired farmer, died Monday (July 18, 1988) at his home.

Services will be at 10 a. m. Thursday at Bethel College Mennonite Church, with the Revs. Darrell Fast and Vernon Lohrentz officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory.

He was born Oct. 29, 1906, in Marion Junction, S. D., the son of George L. and Katheryn (Unruh) Deckert. On July 24, 1930, he married Annie L. Sawatzky in Bloomfield, Mont. She survives of the home. He was a member of the church and had lived in Newton since 1982, moving from Richey, Mont. He was a farmer in Montana for 52 years.

Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth of San Jose, Calif., and Marion of Newton; one daughter, Alison Hiebert, of Bluffton, Ohio; one brother, Edward Deckert, of Glendive, Mont.; two sisters, Hulda Senner of Glendive, Mont., and Doris Goosen of Richey, Mont.; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call this evening and all day Wednesday at Petersen's Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the General Conference Mennonite Church and gifts may be left in care of the funeral home.
