— Mrs. Ida E. Decker, 77, wife of Jacob H. Decker, died Thursday, April 27, at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital where she had been a patient for five days. She had been seriously ill for about a month. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church, Rev. Arnold Epp officiating. A native of the Halstead community, Mrs. Decker had lived in Newton the past 16 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are five sons, Orville of Salida, Colo., La Verne of Peabody, Glenn of Burns, Dwight of Moundridge and Dwayne of Newton; two brothers, two sisters, 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

MRS. JACOB H. DECKER

Ida Eva Decker, nee Schmidt, daughter of Jacob S. and Susanna Wedel Schmidt, was born March 13, 1884, in Alta township, Harvey County, Kansas. She departed this life April 27, 1961, at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton, Kan., at the age of 77 years.

She was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Elder William Galle of West Zion Mennonite Church, of which she became a member. In 1946 she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite Church of Newton, after establishing their home here.

Her elementary education was received at Mound school near Moundridge, Kan. She was married to Jacob H. Decker on Dec. 14, 1905 by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff in her parents' home. After a trip by covered wagon, they made their home on a homestead near Tyrone, Okla. After proving up on the homestead they moved to Moundridge.

To this union seven children were born, five sons and two daughters. They are Orville W. of Salida, Colo., LaVerne K. of Peabody, Glenn N. of Burns, Dwight R. of Moundridge and Dwayne M. of Newton. Preceding her in death are the two daughters, Inez Lucille and Twila Susanna, and two grandchildren. There are 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include her loving husband of the home, five daughters-in-law, two brothers, Rev. Jonathan D. Schmidt of Haven, Kan. and Simon P. Schmidt of Levy, N. M.; two sisters, Mrs. Adina Friesen of Newton and Mrs. Selma Base of Segwick [sic Sedgwick], and a host of relatives and friends.
