CHARLES COOPRIDER

Charles William Cooprider, son of Mathias and Susan Heatwole Cooprider, was born near Groveland, McPherson county, Kansas on February 6, 1883. At the age of eleven years the family moved to the Spring Valley Community near Canton, Kansas, where they made their home for six years, after which they returned to the Groveland community.

He was married on August 10, 1905 to Mary Frances Winey of Peabody. They enjoyed their companionship for seven months less than fifty years. They established their family home in Hays township, McPherson county, where they lived until three years ago. Since then they had resided in McPherson with their daughter, Pauline.

Charles accepted Christ as his Savior early in life and united with the Mennonite Church. He was always interested in the program of the church, and took part in the activities of the church throughout his life. He especially loved to sing in church worship services and was always pleased to add his bass voice in any of the song activities of the church. In time of illness and sorrow of neighbors and friends he promptly and gladly offered any help that he could. He served his community in various ways, among which was 15 years of district school board service.

Following three years of failing health, the Lord called him to rest on January 13, 1955, while a patient at the McPherson hospital, at the age of 71 years, eleven months, and seven days.

He leaves his family, which includes his devoted wife, Frances; daughter Susan and husband Ernest Zimmerman, Windom, Kansas; daughter Pauline and husband Leonard Lundberg, McPherson, Kansas; and five grandchildren, Wayne, Erna Lou, Mary and Karen Zimmerman, and Lenette Lundberg. He also leaves two sisters, Lucy, Mrs. Ernest Ely of Inman, Kansas, and Nettie, Mrs. Oliver Hostetler of McPherson, Kansas, and nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, five half brothers; John, Walter, and Tom Cooprider, and Joseph F., and George R. Brunk, Sr., two half sisters, Henriette (Brunk) Cooprider, and Minnie (Brunk) Cooprider.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, January 16, in the Quiring Funeral Chapel, McPherson, Kansas and the West Liberty Mennonite church in charge of J. G. Hartzler, M. M. Troyer and Kenneth Smoker. Burial was made in the West Liberty church cemetery.
