KATIE RUTH CLEMENS
Katie R. Clemens, 85, of Harleysville, Pa., and Sarasota, Fla., died April 29, 1993, in the health center of the Peter Becker Community of Harleysville. She was the wife of Earl A. Clemens. they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October o 1992.
She was a resident of Worcester Township where they farmed rom 1941 to 1960, when they moved to the Hatfield Mennonite Home. She and her husband worked as superintendent and matron there for six years. They then lived in Harleysville until moving to an apartment at Peter Becker Community
Mrs. Clemens was born in Towamencin Township, a daughter of the late Warren Y. and Mary (Nyce) Ruth. She and her husband founded the Clemens Cleaners in Lansdale, Pa., in the early 1960s. It is now operated by their son, Paul R. Clemens.
She was a member of Methacton Mennonite Church, Fairview Village, Pa., and was active in the Ladies Sewing Circle. She enjoyed quilting and needlework and gave many items to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Ruth R. (Horace S.) Bergey of Hatfield, Pa.; Esther C. (Vitaris) Ongoa of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Mary C. (Earl L.) Alderfer of Souderton, Pa.; and Beulah C. (Melvin I.) Glick of LaGrange, Ill.; two sons Paul R. (Kathryn) Clemens of Harleysville and David R. (Erma) Clemens of Millersburg, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother, John N. Ruth; a stepbrother, Waldo Heebner; and a sister, Kathryn Knechel.
The funeral was held at Salford Mennonite Church in Harleysville, with David R. Clemens, John L. Ruth and Earl D. Yoder officiating. Burial was in the Methacton Mennonite Cemetery, with Clayton L. Swartzentruber officiating.
