Birth date: 1893 Jan 20
text of obituary:
MRS. MARY CLASSEN
Mary (Reimer) Classen was born at Jansen, Neb. on Jan. 20, 1893. She died on June 16, 1974, reaching the age of 81 years.
Mother received her education in Jansen. She moved to Meade, Kan. in 1907. In 1944 father and mother moved to Omaha, Neb. to help at Grace Bible Institute. In 1945 they moved to Hillsboro, Kan., where they have lived for the pat 29 years.
In 1911 she was baptized and accepted into the Mennonite Church. On March 22, 1914 she was married to John L. Classen. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1964 and on March 20, 1974, their diamond (60th) anniversary.
Although mother was never very well and had many health crises, she was more than a conqueror through intimate prayer and fellowship with her Savior. Because of her earnest prayer life her influence lives on in her posterity. Her purpose and desire to live was to glorify Christ.
Preceding her in death were one son, Dan, and seven brothers and sisters. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, John; two daughters, Miss Selma Classen, Henderson, Nevada, and Nettie, Mrs. Clarence Holey, North Lawrence, Ohio; three sons, Dave J. of Hillsboro, Kan., Andrew J. of Wichita, Kan., and Jonas J. of Springfield, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four sisters.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on June 19 at the Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Jacob H. Epp officiating. Burial was made in Gnadenau Cemetery.
