Dr. Peter W. Claassen, Cornell University Biologist, Called by Death Last Week.
An associated Press report from Ithaca, N. Y., dated Aug. 17, gives the following account of the passing of Prof. Peter W. Claassen of Cornell University:
Prof. Peter W. Claassen, 51, Cornell University biologist, died in Tomkins County Hospital today following upon a heart attack last week.
A native of Hillsboro, Kans., he obtained his M. A. degree at the University of Kansas in 1915 and his doctorate at Cornell in 1918. He served as principal of a school at Hillsboro in 1909-11 and as assistant state entomologist of Kansas from 1913-1915 when he came to Cornell as an instructor.
He was assistant professor of entomolgy at the U. of Kansas in 1916 and took a similar post at Cornell in 1918, being made professor in 1926. he took a leave of absence to serve as professor of biology at Tsing Hua College at Peking, china, in 19125. His wife and two children survive.
