● Anna (Mrs. Paul) Claassen, a lifetime Whitewater resident, died Dec. 30 at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home. She was 87. Services for the former Anna Regier were held Jan. 2 at the Emmaus Mennonite Church near Whitewater with Alvin Kleinsasser officiating. Surviving are her husband of rural Whitewater; a son, Olin K. of Whitewater, a daughter, Mrs. Art Busenitz of Benton; two brothers, C. T. Regier of Newton and E. B. Regier of rural Whitewater; a sister, Mrs. Cal Claassen of Whitewater; and 11 grandchildren.

ANNA CLAASSEN

Anna Regier Claassen was born Apr. 22, 1892 to Gerhard and Catherine Wiebe Regier at Whitewater, Kan. She died on Dec. 30, 1979 at the age of 87.

Her early childhood was spent on a farm. She received her elementary education in the district school and in vacation Bible school. She was baptized on May 31, 1909 by Gustav Harder at the Emmaus Mennonite Church.

On Mar. 8, 1951, she was married to Paul Claassen and took on the responsibility of caring for Olin and Carolyn, whose mother died in 1943.

Her life was one of servvice and generosity, taking care of her parents, nieces, nephews and grandchildren, for whom she had a prayerful concern. She appreciated the outdoors and kept her hands busy with crocheting and sewing for relief.

A special blessing was celebrating their silver wedding anniversary in 1976. She enjoyed good health until September when she entered the hospital and later the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home.

Her memory is cherished by her husband Paul and her family, Carolyn and husband Arthur Busenitz and children; Olin and wife Carol and children; one sister, Elise (Mrs. Carl) Claassen of Whitewater; and two brothers, C. P. Regier and E. B. Regier of Whitewater.
