ELEANOR CAMP

Eleanor Camp was executive secretary of the then-called Women's Missionary Association (General Conference) for 15 years, working at the office on Main Street in Newton, Kan.

Since she was born on Feb. 29, 1896, she celebrated only a few birthdays, her first when she was eight years old. The year 1900 was skipped as a leap year as is done every other century.

She was born in St. Louis, Mo., the youngest of four children to Thomas Nathaniel Camp and Mary Brandt Camp. She attended German school ans was graduated from Halstead (Kan.) High School and McKendree College, Lebanon, Ill.

She also attended Taylor University, Upland, Ind. and taught rural schools in Illinois and western Kansas, was a social worker in East St. Louis, worked for the Summerfield Elevator and the Aluminum Ore Plant of St. Louis.

For 15 years she sat at the desk in the WMA office until 1962 when she retired in Summerfield, Ill., where she continued active in church, Sunday school, Bible class and music society, as well as the local Farm Bureau.

She died Oct. 5, 1982 and was buried Oct 8 in the Summerfield Cemetery. Services were conducted by George G. Dick, pastor of the Summerfield Mennonite Church.
