Mother and Daughter Killed When Auto Hits Amish Buggy

Middlefield, Ohio. — A car crashed into the rear of an Amish buggy near Bloomfield on Sunday evening, Nov. 17, fatally injuring Mrs. William E. Byler and her daughter Ada, 15, and seriously injuring the two Byler sons.

The car was driven by a North Bloomfield tavern owner who was charged with manslaughter. It was reported that the buggy was well lighted and carried a safety emblem.

One son, 12-year-old Crist, will be confined to the hospital for some weeks. His brother Jonas has been released and will stay with an aunt, Mrs. Monroe Mast.

The largely attended funeral for mother and daughter was held Nov. 20, and they were laid to rest in one grave.
