Highway Tragedy Takes Lives of Two At Pandora, Ohio
ALBERT BURRY AND ALBERT HILTY STRUCK WHILE FIXING TIRE NEAR HOME
Pandora, Ohio. — Albert Burry, 68, and Albert Hilty, 69, brothers-in-law, were fatally injured in an automobile accident Tuesday night, Jan. 15 while returning home from a visit with relatives and friends at Berne, Ind. The tragedy happened one mile north of town, which is also within one mile of the Hilty home.
Mr. and Mrs. Burry and Mr. and Mrs. Hilty had visited in Indiana since the previous Monday. A short distance from home, at about 7:30 p.m., they had the misfortune that a tire went flat and the two men were engaged in putting on a spare when they were struck by a car driven by Grover Rader, a neighbor of the Hiltys. According to reports, Mr. Rader was apparently confused since only one headlight on the Burry car was burning at the time.
Mr. Burry was killed instantly, while Mr. Hilty died a few hours later in the Bluffton hospital. Both men had been married in a double ceremony 44 years ago. Mrs. Burry is a sister of Mrs. Hilty.
Funeral services held at the Grace Mennonite church on Friday afternoon, Jan. 18th, were among the largest ever held in this community. Officiating ministers were Rev. P. E. Whitmer and Rev. Ernest Bohn, both of Bluffton.
