Young Husband Killed As Car Hits Bicycle

Ephrata, Pa. — An early morning accident Sept. 22 on Route 322 near Hinkletown claimed the life of Willis N. Burkholder, 26, a member of the Weaverland Mennonite Church.

Burkholder had just left his home for work when his bicycle was struck head-on by a car driven by Earl R. Weaver of Akron, who was passing another car. The investigating officer said it was dark and raining at the time of the accident, and Weaver did not see the approaching bicycle. Burkholder was dead on arrival at the Ephrata hospital.

He leaves his widow, the former Emma Martin; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel R. Burkholder of rural Bird-in-hand; his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Nolt; four brothers and six sisters.
