Lancaster County, Pa. Farmer Dies in Crash

Ephrata, Pa. — A one-car accident on Long Island, New York, claimed the life of Elmer M. Burkholder, 53-year-old farmer of rural Ephrata.

Funeral services were held July 23 at the Groffdale Mennonite Church, of which he was a member.

it was reported that Burkholder, his brother-in-law, John M. Rutt, 58, also of rural Ephrata, and Elmer Rock, 54, of Clay, Pa. were returning from a fishing trip. It is believed Mr. Rutt went to sleep at the wheel, causing the car to go off the road and strike a tree.

Surviving Burkholder are his wife, the former Elizabeth Shirk; three daughters, Mrs. Adam Zimmerman, Mrs. Raymond Martin, and Anna of the home; three grandchildren, and a number of brothers and sisters.
