ESTHER BURKHART

Esther Frances Burkhart, daughter of Benjamin W. and Magdalene (Good) Bare, was born Dec. 10, 1871, near Foraker, Elkhart County, Ind., and died at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, Pa., Feb. 19, 1964, after an extended illness, at the age of 92 years and two months.

She was married to Eli B. Burkhart on Dec. 25, 1893 in Marion County, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 14, 1944 and their three children — Clayton in 1898, Florence in 1921 and Howard in 1922. Surviving are four daughters, Ada, Mrs. C. C. Ziegler, Sarasota, Fla.; Clara, Newell, N. C., Nettie, Mrs. Walter Landis, Elizabethtown, Pa., and Gladys, New York City; two sons, Allen, Newton, Kan.; Calvin, Fairborn, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Hostetler, Albany, or.; Mrs. Nancy Ann Weaver, Orenogo [sic Oronogo], Mo., Kathrine [sic Katherine], Mrs. Walter Underwood, Modesto, Calif.; two brothers, Mahlon, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Joseph, Harper, Kan.

Early in life she united with the Catlin Church at Peabody, Kan. and was faithful all through her life. At the time of death she was a member of the Goshen College Church, Goshen, Ind.

Services were conducted at the Miller Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, Pa.,with Bishop Clarence Lutz officiating. Interment was in Elizabethtown Mennonite cemetery, where her husband is buried.
