In 1878, at the age of three years, he migrated with his parents to the United States, settling near Hillsboro, Marion County, Kansas, where he spent his boyhood years. In 1893 the family made the run at the opening of the Cherokee Strip, settling near Fairview, Okla.

At the age of 18 years he received the Lord as his Saviour and upon his confession of faith was baptized on Jun 6, 1892 by Rev. He was united in marriage to Anna I. Loewen on Dec. 30, 1900 by Rev. Christian Ramseir [sic Ramseier], elder of Saron Mennonite Church. The Lord blessed this union with five daughters and five sons, of whom one daughter, Alma, preceded him in death at the age of seven years. His wife also preceded him in 1951. The Lord permitted them to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in December 1950.

in 1899 he purchased a claim seven miles west of Fairview, Okla., where our parents shared joys and sorrows for over 50 years with the exception of five years when they lived at Fairview operating a dairy.

He leaves to mourn his passing four daughters, Mrs. Frank (Valeria) Hamm and Mrs. Albert (Helen) Harms of Cleo Springs, Okla., Mrs. Archie (Enid) Loewen of Peabody, Kan. and Mrs. Louis (Berneice [sic Bernice]) Hiebert of Hillsboro, Kan.; five sons, Paul of Palisade, Colo., Leo of Bessie, Okla., Joe of Hamilton City, Calif., Alva of Peabody, and Cleophas of Broken Bow, Okla.; four sons-in-law, five daughters-in-law, 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Thiessen of Rodgers, Ark. and Mrs. J. J. (Eva) Thomas of Ringwood, Okla.; two brothers, David E. of Hydro, Okla. and Herman J. of Orienta, Okla.; and a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends.
