Immigrant of 1879 Dies at Upland, Cal.

Henderson, Neb. — Funeral services were conducted at the Bethesda Mennonite Church here July 18 for Peter P. Buller, 95, an early day immigrant from South Russia and long-time resident of this community. He died July 11 at Upland, Calif. after a six-month illness.

Mr. Buller was born in Russia in 1869, and came to the United States with his parentis when 10 years of age. Mrs. Buller died in 1951.

The large family of survivors includes five daughters, five sons, 42 grandchildren and 103 great-grandchildren, as well as three brothers and one sister.

PETER P. BULLER

Peter P. Buller of Upland, Calif. was a retired farmer and former resident of Nebraska, who spent 20 years of his life in Southern California with four year intervals twice in Nebraska. He died at home in Upland on July 11, 1964 at the age of 95 years, two months and 25 days. He was the son of Peter D. and Sarah Siebert Buller, born in Alexanderkron, Ukraine, South Russia on April 16, 1869.

At the age of two years his parents moved back to Kleefeld where they had lived before. In May 1879 the family moved to the U.S.A. arriving in the latter part of June and settling in Hamilton County, Neb., two miles southwest of Henderson. In a family of 10 children, he knew the hardships of pioneers.

On June 19, 1889, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith and received into the Bethesda Mennonite Church; he later joined the First Mennonite Church in Upland, Calif.

Feb. 27, 1890, he married Magaretha [sic Margaretha] Epp, daughter of Cornelius and Katharina Tiesen Epp. They were married 61 years, five months, and 22 days. After her death on Aug 19, 1951, he made his home with his children.

This union was blessed with 12 children, six sons and six daughters; two children preceded him in death, one infant son and one married daughter, Margaretha, Mrs. Klass T. Friesen.

Surviving him are Katharina, Mrs. D. C. Quiring, and Benjamin P., both of Henderson, Neb.; Sara and maria, Upland, Calif.; Klass P., York, Neb.; Elizabeth, Mrs. David Regier, and Cornelius P., both of Lushton, Neb.; Peter E., Omaha, Neb.; Anna, Mrs. John D. Wards, Los Angeles, Calif., and Henry P. of Beaumont, Texas. Also surviving are 43 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren; three brothers, David, York, Neb., Cornelius and Heinrich, both of Henderson, Neb., and one sister, Maria, Mrs. Peter Krause, Mt. Lake, Minn.

Our father was ill about six months with cancer claiming his life. His desire was to go to his heavenly home.

Memorial services were held in First Mennonite church, Upland, Calif., with Pastor David Habegger and Dr. David Eitzen officiating, and in Bethesda Mennonite Church, Henderson, Neb., Rev. John Gaeddert and Rev. A. W. Friesen officiating. Burial was in Mennonite cemetery near the former farm home. — The Family.
