— Funeral services were held last Saturday at the First Mennonite church for Peter J. Buller, 77, who was fatally injured Wednesday evening. Sept. 3, when he rode his bicycle into the side of a car on Highway 81 near Zimmerdale. Mr. Buller, who lived in Newton, was en route to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Jake Willems' and apparently did not see the highway as he approached from a side road. He was born in South Russia Feb. 11, 1875, son of Jacob and Katherine Buller. Survivors include his wife, Helena, two daughters and two sons, and a brother, Henry Buller of Newton. Rev. D. J. Unruh conducted the funeral services, and burial was made in Greenwood cemetery.

PETER J. BULLER

Peter J. Buller, son of Jacob and Katherina Buller, was born in South Russia February 11, 1875, and died from the injuries of a bicycle-automobile accident at Newton, Kansas, September 3, 1952, aged 77 years, six months and 23 days.

When he was two years old his parents moved from S. Russia to America and settled near Henderson, Nebraska where Bro. Buller grew to young manhood and received his early Christian training. In 1892 his family moved to the vicinity of Inman and Buhler, Kansas. Here he received further Christian training and on Pentecost May 29, 1898, he was baptized on his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour from sin by Rev. Peter Balzer, elder of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church. He became a member of the Hoffnungsau Mennonite church at that time an[sic] remained a member of that church until he and his family transferred their membership to the First Me nnonite church, Newton, Kansas in July, 1930. Here he remained a faithful member until the time of his death.

He was married to Helena Androes on November 23, 1901, and for more than 50 years they shared the joys and sorrows of married life. Six children were born to this union, three sons and three daughters. One son died in infancy, and one daughter Sarah (Mrs. Henry B. Voth) and a newborn baby Lola Mae Voth, died in January, 1938.

Mr. Buller was a quiet, industrious husband and father. For about 10 years he was custodian of the First Mennonite church, Newton, Kans. until ill health made it necessary for him to resign from this work. He knew the Lord Jesus as his Saviour and when he left for his trip last Wednesday, which proved fatal for him, he confessed that he had set his house in order.

Among his favorite hymns was one that was sung on the day of his baptism, “O Happy Day when Jesus washed my sins away.”

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife Helena Androes Buller, two daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Jake Willems and her husband) Route 5, Newton, and Helen, Mrs. Bob Enders and her husband of Wichita, two sons Allen P. and John D. and their wives of Sacramento, Calif., and a brother Henry, of Newton, six grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
