Henry Buller

Henry Buller was born on May 9, 1852, in the village of Paulsheim in Southern Russia. The days of his youth were spent in the home of his parents and in his home village. His education he received in the elementary school of the above named village in Southern Russia.

In 1871 on the day of Pentecost he was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Rev. Jacob Buller, and accepted as a member into the Alexanderwohl Church.

In the year 1874 he with his parents came to America and endured many hardships of pioneer life. Here in America he joined the Hoffnungsau Church and remained a member of the same until in 1920 the Inman Mennonite Church was organized and he became a member of the same at the time of organization. He remained a faithful member of this church until he was called home by his Lord and Master.

January 25,1877 he was united in marriage to Anna Siemens. With her he was privileged to share the joys and sorrows of life for a little more than 40 years. This union was blessed with nine children, 5 sons and 4 daughters, of whom 2 sons and 3 daughters preceded him into the Great Beyond. In 1917 his wife was through death taken from his side, which loss he felt very keenly.

Their home they had erected in McPherson County, three miles south of Inman. Here they had to live through many of the hard and trying days of pioneer life, but through God's blessing, through hard work and economy they prospered financially and grew wealthy. After the children were all grown and had established a home of their own, they moved to Inman and here he has spent practically the rest of his days. After the death of his wife he felt very lonesome, but being socially inclined he spent many hours in company with others.

Wednesday he was taken sick with a weak heart and pneumonia also set in. He grew constantly weaker till on Friday, Sept. 24, at 1:10 a.m. he was called home to be with his Lord and Master, whom he faithfully and humbly tried to serve.

He reached the age of 74 years, 4 months and 27 days.

Safe Home, safe Home in port!

Rent cordage, Shattered deck;
Torn sails, provisions short,
And only not a wreck;
But oh, the joy upon the shore

To tell our voyage perils o'er!

Funeral services were held at the Hoffnungsau church on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. A. J. Dyck officiated and was assisted by Rev. Abraham Albrecht of Goessel, Kansas. Music was furnished by the Hoffnungsau Quartette. — Inman Review.
