— Mrs. Marietta Brunk, 83, of Newton, passed away at the Mercy hospital in Moundridge on Thursday, July 24. Funeral services were conducted last Sunday afternoon with a brief service at the Moody’s Funeral chapel here, followed by services at the West Liberty Mennonite church west of Elyria. Taking part in the services were Rev. Laurence Horst, Dr. Fred Brenneman, Rev. Earl Buckwalter and Rev. M. M. Troyer. Mrs. Brunk was the widow of Rev. Joseph F. Brunk, well known minister of the (Old) Mennonite church who died in 1943. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. J. W Remer of Newton and Mrs. Julia E. Hawthorne of McPherson, seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MRS. MARIETTA BRUNK

Marietta Rebecca Gray, daugh¬ter of Luther S. and Rebecca Ox¬ley Gray, was born in Kokomo, Indiana May 27, 1869. She passed away July 24, 1952, at Mercy hos¬pital, Moundridge, Kansas, aged 83 years, one month and 24 days.

She was reared in a Christian home and early in life accepted Christ as her Saviour. On Oct. 14, 1888, she was united in mar¬riage to Joseph F. Brunk who predeceased her Sept. 17, 1943.

During their early married life they farmed in McPherson county, Kans., soon became active in mis¬sion work for the Mennonite Church, going to Hillsboro, Kan¬sas and supervising a children's home in 1903. Later they were instrumental in starting a Gos¬pel mission in Kansas City. Af¬ter some years they were active in starting and supervising the Mennonite Sanitarium at La Junta, Colorado. Later they were in charge of the old people’s home in Ohio. Some years ago they started a Gospel mission in Hutchinson, Kansas, and about 1934 retired to a residence in Newton, Kansas, at 601 East Fourth, where they spent their last years.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mabel S. Remer of 326 West Fifth street, Newton, Kansas; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Julia E. Hawthorne of McPherson, Kansas; also many other relatives and friends.

A brief service was conducted at the Moody funeral chapel in Newton at 10:00 p.m. by Rev. Laurence Horst and Dr. Fred Brenneman, followed by services at the West Liberty Mennonite church near Windom, Kansas in charge of Rev. Earl Buckwalter assisted by Rev. Menno M. Troyer. Burial was made in the West Liberty church cemetery.
