of Tazewell Co., Ohio
The funeral of Mrs. Jacobine Brennemann was held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Jeckel, last Saturday afternoon. A large number of friends and relatives attended to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed one, including three nephews from Hamilton, Ohio, Mr. P. B. Holly, Mr. Otto Ehresman and Mr. R. Kennel. Other friends from a distance were from Washington, Morton, Pekin, Danvers, Stanford, Minier and San Jose. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Troyer from Normal, assisted by Rev. Kinsinger and Rev. Guengerich and Litwiller. The following obituary was read: Jacobine Iutzi Brennemann was born in the Province of Hesse Cassel, Germany on March 12, 1829 and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Geo. Jeckel on May 5, 1926 surviving her husband 39 years.
In her third year her parents with a company of about 120 friends and relatives emigrated to America in a sailing vessel they had chartered for that special purpose of which company she is the last member to be called to the life beyond.
They came to Ohio in 1832 and settled in Butler Co. about 30 miles north of Cincinnati where she lived with her parents until Nov. 20, 1853 when she was united in marriage to Jacob Brennemann. In the following spring they came to Illinois and with the exception of the first year in McLean Co. and about four years on another farm in Tazwell Co., they lived on the Brennemann homestead in Boynton township Tazewell Co., all the rest of their life. Excepting the last 12 years she has made her home with her daughter Emilie Jeckel during the winter months and with her daughter Minnie during the summer on the old homestead.
There were seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Brennemann all of whom survive but one son, Daniel, who died at two years of age. The surviving children are M. Louise Kennel, Jullia Oswold [sic Julia Oswald], Albert, Emilie Jeckel, Minnie and William all living in Boynton township excepting Julia Oswald] who resides at Morton, Ill.
There also are 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren surviving her.
She united with the Mennonite church at an early age and has always lived a consistent Christian life.
She was devoted to her home and to her family always working for the best interest and welfare of those in her household. She always took an active interest in her neighbors and never failed to reach out a helping hand in sickness and sorrow as well as participating in the joys of her friends and neighbors. In later years she endeared herself to her grandchildren and her great grandchildren all of whom loved her and enjoyed being with her and who will always have a sweet memory of her presence and life among them. She was a great lover of flowers and her flowerbeds were a great source of comfort and pleasure for her as well as her family and friends. She was in fair health up until about 10 days ago when she unfortunately sustained a fall from which she never recovered having attained the ripe old age of 97 years, 1 month and 23 days.
