AGED REFUGEE PASSES AWAY MONTHS AFTER ENTERING U. S.
Lancaster, Pa. — Less than seven months after entering the U. S. as a refugee, Mrs. Susanna Braun, 79, passed away at the home of her son, Frank Brown, near Ephrata. She died Dec. 7 following a brief illness.
Mrs. Braun was one of the thousands of Mennonites who fled from Russia into Germany ahead of the retreating German army in 1943. After a precarious existence at Bonn, Germany for several years, contact was made with her son here through an advertisement in a German paper published in Canada.
Other surviving children include a daughter in Austria; a son, Dietrich Braun in Paraguay; a daughter, Mrs. Amalie Reimer at Lockwood, Canada; and a daughter believed to be still living in Russia.
