NETTIE BRAUN

Nettie Braun of Altona, Man. passed away Apr. 3. She was born Jan. 15, 1906 to Peter and Elisabeth Dyck and was raised in Aliesova, Orenburg, Russia. She made her commitment as a young girl and joined the MB church. She ministered through singing and playing her guitar. In 1926 she immigrated to Canada with her brother and sister. She worked as a housekeeper for the Peter Dyck family in Winkler, Man. for 6 years, did homecare for elderly ladies in Manitou, Man. and Winnipeg, took medical training and worked as a nurse for Dr. C.W. Wiebe. She met George A. Braun, who was conducting gospel services with another man in Chortiz, Man. They married in 1936 and established a farm home near Altona. For 18 years in the winters they moved to Altona, where George taught in the Bible school. She entertained many visiting ministers and missionaries. Proverbs 10:7a could be applied to her for her family life and other services. Two weeks before her passing she said, "Lord, I belong to you, and you belong to me; nothing can separate us." She is mourned by her husband, 3 sons and 2 daughters. The funeral was Apr. 6 in Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Altona, with Bernhard W. Sawatzky, Peter Krahn, Randy Klaassen and David F. Friesen ministering.
