MARY BRAUN
Mary Braun of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Dec. 15. She was born Nov. 30, 1901 to Bernhard and Maria Doerksen in Suvorovka, Russia. She grew up in Nikolaifeld. She was converted at age 14 with the help of teacher Rosenfeld and joined the Allianz Church. In 1924 she came to Canada with her brothers and sister. She worked with a Yoder family in Tofield, Alta., learning English and continuing her schooling. She moved to Winnipeg, where she did housework and took nurse's training at Grace Hospital. She loved her profession. She married Ben Braun Nov. 24, 1934. They lived in Steinbach, Man. for 3 years. In 1938 they moved to a small farm in Clearbrook, B.C., where they combined labour intensive farming and good music. She worked in MSA Hospital for 5 years. They belonged to Clearbrook MB Church. After retirement, they later moved to an apartment and then Tabor Home. Ben died in 1986. She continued an active life characterized by courage, a practical nature and strong faith. Predeceased by her husband, 1 grandson and all her brothers and sisters, she is survived by her daughter Margaret Doerksen of Winnipeg and 2 grandchildren. The funeral was Dec. 20 in Clearbrook MB Church, with John Klassen and David Nickel ministering.
