FRANK BRAUN

Frank Braun of Winnipeg passed away Dec. 9 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 16, 1935 to Frank and Elizabeth Braun in Chortitza, Ukraine. His father was taken away 2 years later, never to be seen again. He was often left alone while his mother worked. The family moved to Germany in 1943 and to Winnipeg in 1948. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in 1951 by A.H. Toews, joining North Kildonan MB Church. Early in age, he took a keen interest in how things worked. He became an electrician, a career taking him to various parts of the country. He had a great interest in the outdoors and was an active member of the Manitoba Naturalist Society for many years. He loved travelling. He attended Bible school in Kitchener, Ont.; he served with MDS in Alaska. He married Mary in 1976. He centred his life around his family; his sons were his pride and joy. The family enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, boating and travelling. He was quiet in nature but very independent; he was able to fix most things. He enjoyed challenges and was not afraid to tackle new tasks. He could be heard whistling at work and around the house. He helped with the church's boys' Stockade program for some years. A year ago, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour; it progressed rapidly despite 2 operations, radiation and chemotherapy. During the past year, he remained courageous and at peace, but wished for a few more good years. He is mourned by Mary; sons Kelsey and Phil; and 2 sisters. The funeral was Dec. 12 in McIvor Ave. MB Church, Winnipeg, with Doug Enns and Allan Labun ministering.
