BLACKSMITH SHOP OWNER DIED

Reedley, Calif. — Funeral services were held at the Mennonite Brethren church here April 10 for Abe Braun, 44, who operated a blacksmith shop in Reedley. He died April 7 at a Fresno hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Braun, a resident of Reedley for 37 years, was a deacon of the M. B. congregation here. He leaves his wife, Louise, and four children; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Braun; five brothers and six sisters.

ABE BRAUN

Abe Braun, son of Isaac and Margaret (nee Heinrichs) Braun, was born at Joes, Colo. on Oct. 30, 1911, and departed this life to be with his Savior and Lord on the morning of April 7, 1956. he reached the age of 44 years, five months, and seven days.

He moved with his parents to the Reedley, Calif. community in 1919. He helped his parents with the farm work and attended the Reedley Elementary School. He graduated from a two year Bible course of the Reedley Bible School, now known as the Immanuel Academy. He enjoyed his bible studies greatly.

He accepted Christ as his Savior at the tender age of nine. This experience was very real to him so that he never doubted his salvation. He was baptized on Nov. 11, 1923, and received into the fellowship of the Reedley Mennonite Brethren church whose faithful member he remained the rest of his life.

He enjoyed his church very much and was active in it ever since he was 16 when he began to teach Sunday school in a Japanese mission. Later he taught in the Sunday school of the church for many years, and also served as departmental superintendent for several years.

He was married to Louise Penner on Nov. 12, 1936. We have had a most happy married life, enjoying many rich blessings of God. Our union was blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter. We were permitted to travel life's highway together serving our Lord for more than 19 years. The way was not always rosy for we have had also severe trials of our faith.

He was kind and gentle with us as a family and showed us much love and consideration. He was also a man of deep convictions and taught us to walk in the ways of God.

He enjoyed the confidence of his church and about seven years ago when the church had a deacon election he was also chosen among others. On Jan. 21, 1951, we were ordained as deacons with others. He tried to discharge his duties to best of his ability. He ever longed to know God's Word better and one winter enrolled in a Bible course at the Pacific Bible Institute of Fresno, Calif.

By trade he was a mechanic, welder, and blacksmith. He enjoyed good health till about a year and a half ago when seemingly an eye trouble developed. his condition became serious about four months ago and he had surgery performed on his left eye, hoping to correct the difficulty. it was soon discovered that his ailment lay much deeper. Medical aid was sought at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. It was discovered that his ailment was due to a tumor in the lower brain area. Surgery was impossible due to the location of the tumor. He failed rapidly and suffered more from extreme fatigue than pain.

In all of his sufferings and weakness his faith in God was strong, comforting and encouraging those about hm. He would have desired to stay with his family but was resigned to god's will. He was much loved and appreciated by all who knew him, and his church deeply appreciated his services and will miss him greatly. We will miss him very much but rejoice in the hope of meeting him again in Glory.

He leaves to mourn his all too soon departure his wife, Mrs. Louise Braun; his three sons, Billie 18, Terry 14, Louis 10, and precious little Kathleen, 4, all of Reedley; his aging mother, Mrs. Margaret Braun, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Katie Penner, both of Reedley; five brothers, John, Jake, Ike, and Dave Braun, all of Reedley, and Willie Braun of Burbank, Calif.; six sisters, Mary, Mrs. Jake Epp of Norwalk, Calif., Helen, Mrs. Clarence Higdon, Elizabeth and Susie Braun, Louise, Mrs. Jack Fast, and Irene, Mrs. Ernest Fast, all of Reedley; eight brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law, and many relatives and friends. — His Wife and Children.
