SUSIE LEHRMAN BRANDT

Susie Lehrman Brandt, daughter of Heinrich and Susanna Voth Lehrman, was born in Marion county, Kans., Jan. 22, 1884, and passed away March 15, 1950, at 6:50 p. m. She reached the age of 66 years, one month and 21 days.

On May 18, 1902, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Jesus by Elder Peter Balzer and received into the Alexanderwohl church.

On May 9, 1907, she was united in marriage to Henry J. Brandt by Rev. C. C. Wedel. In 1932 they were privileged to celebrate their silver wedding. For 42 years, 10 months and six days they shared the joys and sorrows of life.

In 1914 with other families, they moved to Dubois, Idaho, where a dry farming settlement was opened and homesteaded there. Here she shared in all the hardships and responsibilities of pioneer life, working outdoors and in the field, besides performing the duties of housewife and mother. She transferred her church membership to the Bethel church at Dubois when it was organized.

When the whole settlement was forced to leave on account of severe drought, the family moved back to Kansas in the fall of 1919 and made their home on a farm east of Goessel until last December, when they moved to Goessel. March 19, 1920 she transferred her church membership to the Tabor church, of which she was a faithful member to the end.

On March 9, at 2 p m., she suffered a stroke which paralyzed her right side. The following day she was taken to the Bethesda hospital where she received the best of care from doctors and nurses. She was in a coma until God relieved her of her suffering.

Mother has gone on to a better land, yet in spirit she lives with us. A life like hers cannot be forgotten so soon. Her life to us as a family was an expression of a living faith in a living Christ. She loved to attend the Sunday worship services and enjoyed the Bible study hour. She had a compassionate heart toward her friends and especially toward the sick and unfortunate. She was a loving wife and a dear mother and grandmother, always remembering us with tokens of love. Even now she had planned for the next birthday in the family and had already provided a gift.

She may not have expected to leave us so soon, yet we have the assurance that she was ready to go to be with her Creator and Redeemer.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, H. J. Brandt; her children, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer J. Brandt of Canton, Mr. and Mrs. Adolf J. Bartel of Hillsboro, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Flaming of Reedley, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Milford H. Brandt of Newton; eight grandchildren: also four brothers and four sisters. Mrs. H. J. Loewen of Goessel, Mrs. Geo. Schmidt of Newton, H. H. Lehrman of Aberdeen, Idaho, J. V. Lehrman of Brooks, Oregon, Mrs. Albert Schmidt, Mrs. Albert Unruh and W. V. Lehrman, all of Newton, and T. C. Lehrman of Goessel, and a large number of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on March 19 at 2 p.m. in the Tabor Mennonite church. Rev. H.B. Schmidt spoke in English on Hebrews 13:14 and Isa. 38:1. Rev. J. J. Voth spoke in German on Romans 8:28. — The bereaved family.
