text of obituary:
MRS. JOHN BRANDT
Liese (Funk) Brandt, daughter of Johann N. and Maria (Rempel) Funk, was born Oct. 24, 1879 at Canada, Kansas. Being the first of 11 children in the family, Liese learned early to be charitable and responsible toward others. In later years these attributes were expressed in the concern for the guests of her church and for the homeless who felt the hospitality of her home.
Liese was baptized and received as a member of the Brudertal Mennonite church on May 25, 1896 by Rev. Wm. J. Ewert. In the same church on May 1, 1902 she was married to John Brandt by Rev. Ewert. The more than 37 years of wedlock, of sharing joy and sorrow, work and worship, were punctuated by several severe illnesses. Five children were born of this union, two of whom preceded their mother to the heavenly home, Esther in infancy and Waldo at 14 years of age.
In December 1919 the parents transferred their church affiliation to the First Mennonite church of Hillsboro. Here mother rendered much service and her steadfast desire was to do the master's will as she had the insight to discern it.
She passed to her reward on Sunday morning, Dec. 27, 1959, having reached the age of 80 years and two months.
The decreased family circle consists of her husband; two daughters, Linda and husband Wm. Plenert, and Irma and husband Pete Funk; a son, Leo, and his wife Mildred; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The surviving brothers are Alvin and Menno of Hillsboro, and Ezra of Drake, Sask. — The Family.
