JOHN KORNELIUS BRANDT
John Brandt was born in 1891 in the village of Wasilovka, South Russia. In 1903 he came to Canada with his parents and after a brief stay in Gretna, Man., settled in Herbert, Sask. Later he took up his own homestead there. In 1907 he realized his lost condition and the Lord in His mercy saved him. That spring he was baptized and received into the fellowship of the MB Church at Lichtfeld, where he became an active member in the choir and in the Sunday school.
He received his education at the MCI, Gretna, Herbert High School, and teacher's training in Saskatoon, after which he began his teaching career. He was married in 1919 to Anna Thiessen. After teaching in various schools in Saskatchewan he moved to B.C. in 1947 and settled on a dairy farm in East Chilliwack. In 1957 he moved to Clearbrook.
During his earlier years in B.C. he taught in the East Chilliwack and Abbotsford Bible Schools. All through the years his work with choirs and Sunday school teaching were sources of rich blessing for him. He loved the fellowship of believers and remained active in many facets of church work until recently. In 1968 they were able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with all children present.
He became ill last fall and suffered considerably. Nevertheless, he believed it was a way of bringing honour and glory to God, because He had suffered much for us and gave us life through His death He died on August 27, a few days short of his 81st birthday.
He leaves to mourn his wife, seven sons, four daughters, 39 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one older brother,
Funeral services were held in the Clearbrook MB Church with Rev. Herman Lenzmann officiating.
