MRS. A. J. BRANDT

Mrs. Helena Brandt, nee Flaming, was born on May 13, 1880, in Marion county, Kansas. She was baptized on May 29, 1898, and received into the fellowship of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church.

On Dec. 9, 1906, she was united by marriage to Abraham J. Brandt, who at that time was a widower with three children. Like a true mother, she received these children as her own and gave them the best of care. Later on the Lord blessed this union with another daughter, now Mrs. Clements, and the only child she ever had.

The family now settled in Goessel, Kansas and lived there until 1913, when they moved to Idaho. After nine years in Idaho the Brandts moved to Reedley in 1922 and have been here ever since.

Some four years ago, Mrs. Brandt developed high blood pressure and heart trouble. This led to a stroke affecting her eyesight considerably and her memory somewhat. Another stroke, a rather light one, came about a year ago from which she also recovered. About a week before her passing she was ill with a cold and pneumonia. This weakened her greatly but she was rallying from that too. She was trying even to get around in the house some. But last Friday, while sitting at the breakfast table, she suffered another stroke. She was taken to the hospital immediately but nothing seemed to help this time. She lost consciousness and never regained it

The end of her earthly journey came Tuesday at 1:00 a.m., Oct. 17, 1950, at the Reedley hospital, when her soul quietly slipped away to stand in the presence of the King. She reached the age of 70 years, five months and four days. Her faith was firm and strong unto the end. Many a time she expressed her longing to be with the Lord and now she sees Him whom her soul loved.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband; three children, Mrs. J. H. Friesen, Reedley, Jacob A. Brandt, Chino, Calif., and Mrs. Lelsie [sic Leslie] Clements., San Jose, Calif., (a daughter, Mrs. Henry Friesen, Buhler, Kansas has already preceded her in death); also sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two brothers, P. J. Flaming and John J. Flaming, both of Hillsboro, Kansas; and three sisters, Mrs. F. W. Banman, Newton, Kansas, Mrs. David Ediger, Hillsboro, Kansas, and Mrs. Gustav Gaeddert, Reedley, Calif., and other relatives and many friends.

We shall miss our loved one very much but we sorrow not as those who have no hope and wish her the eternal rest in the arms of Jesus. — The bereaved family.
