— Relatives from Newton were at Gotebo, Okla. on Tuesday to attend funeral services at the Mennonite church there for Mrs. J. J. Brandt, who passed away Friday, July 12, following a stroke. She was the mother of Waldo Brandt of North Newton. Her home was at Mt. View, Okla.

MRS. JAKE J. BRANDT

Anna (Reimer) Brandt, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Henry Reimer, was born July 25, 1879, in Marion county, Kansas. She passed away July 11, 1952, at 11:40 p.m. in the Hobart General hospital, Hobart, Oklahoma. She reached the age of 72 years, 11 months and 17 days.

She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour in 1897 and was baptized upon the confession of her faith June 6, 1897, by Rev. Peter Baltzer in the Alexanderwohl church near Goessel, Kansas. After moving to Oklahoma she and her husband transferred their membership to the Ebenezer Mennonite church of Gotebo, Oklahoma. She has remained a faithful professor of her faith until her death.

On November 21, 1899, she was united in holy matrimony with Jake J. Brandt on her parents’ farm near Goessel, Kansas. She has been a real mate and a true mother, ever ready to help where help was needed. She had many friends wherever she lived. To his union seven children were born, four sons, Arthur, Arnold, Jake and Waldo, and two daughters, Hildo and Marie who are living. One son Arlando passed away as an infant.

During the first year of their married life they lived on a farm near Lehigh, Kansas, and being unable to establish themselves there they moved to Mt. View, Oklahoma and started farming in that vicinity. After several years they finally settled on the farm which is now the family homestead. During these years they have had many happy moments and also many trying times. They had the joy of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary November 20, 1949.

Mother had been feeling fairly good, with the exception of some fainting spells during the last week or so. On Friday morning she suffered a stroke and she seemed paralyzed and her speech was impaired. Even though she couldn't make her condition known she seemed to be conscious until her death which came Friday night at about 11:40 p.m. Her death was sudden but we praise the Lord that she didn't have to suffer long nor too hard.

She leaves to mourn her going on before, her husband, Jake J. Brandt; six children, Arthur of Loveland, Colorado, Arnold of Gotebo, Hilda (Mrs. Aron Thiessen) of Gotebo, Marie (Mrs. Ellis Middleton) of El Dorado, Kansas, Jake of Plainview, Texas, and Waldo of North Newton, Kansas; four daughters-in-law, Marth [sic Martha] (Daubert, Frieda (Funck), Pauline (Moody), and Avis (Unruh); two sons-in-law, Aron Thiessen and Ellis Middleton; 11 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; two brothers, Abraham Reimer of Hutchinson, Kansas and Ferdinand Reimer of Goessel, Kansas; three sisters. Mrs. Lena Nickelson, Garnett, Kansas, Mrs. Bertha Jantz, Custer, Washington, Mrs. Susie Koehn, Ferndale, Washington, and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were one son, her parents, one sister, Mrs. P. G. Kleiwer [sic Kliewer], two brothers, Pete Reimer and Henry Reimer.

Separation is painful and the burdens seem so heavy, but we are not as those who have no hope, but are eagerly looking for the day when we shall be united never to be separated again. — Jake J. Brandt and Family.
