William H. Borman

William H. Borman, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Borman, was born September 21, 1883, in Freeman, S. D. He lived on a farm south of Freeman until he was married. He taught in the rural school two years after his marriage. Then he took up the grain business, which was his occupation until his death. He had his place of business in Marion, S. D., from 1932 until his death. On Aug. 12, 1923, he was received into membership of the Bethany Mennonite church of Freeman to which he belonged and which he faithfully supported until his death.

On July 25, 1904, he was united in holy matrimony with Emma Schrag. Together they shared life’s joys and sorrows or 36 years, 5 months, and 20 days. This union was blessed with 5 boys, two, Lloyd and Dell, having preceded him in death. In his 33 years of business pursuit, he enjoyed good health and never was confined to bed because of illness.

On December 14, 1940, he became ill with qneumonia [sic] and after six days he was taken to the hospital where he remained two weeks. He then felt he wanted to return to his home where he was also taken. He lived 13 days more, after which he passed away in a peaceful and restful way on January 15, 1941, at 5 o’clock in the evening. He was ready and willing to go to meet his Lord in Paradise as he often said.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. W. H. Borman; 3 sons, LaVerne of Sioux Falls, Rollo and Rockford who are at home; one daughter-in-law, Maxine, and one grandson, John D.; his stepmother, Mrs. John Borman of Freeman; one sister, Emma (Mrs. Wm. Kneebs and 1 brother, Henry, both of Centerville; one half-brother, Charlie, and 2 half-sisters (Mrs. Robert Wipf) and Lena (Mrs. Ed. P. Hoferall of Freeman; and many other relatives and friends. He attained an age of 57 years, 8 months and 25 days. He will be greatly missed by his associates and kin, by the church but most of all his family.
