ROBERT DELBERT BOESE

Robert Delbert Boese was born on Oct. 2, 1926 at Kansas City, Mo. At the age of three months he was adopted by his foster parents, Rudolph and Emma Boese, and brought to their home near Dundee, Kan. He was cared for with great love and enjoyed a happy childhood. His grade school days in Dundee were a great pleasure to him. He attended the Pawnee Rock High School and two years at Bethel College in North Newton.

On May 4, 1942 he was baptized by Rev. J. B. Schmidt upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ and received as a member of the Bergthal Mennonite Church near Pawnee Rock where he remained a member until his death.

He served two years in 1-W service from 1952-54 at the Topeka State Hospital as an orderly. He felt that in his quiet way he had served His Lord by caring for the patients there.

On Oct. 28, 1954 he and Velorris Olene Rudiger were joined in marriage by Rev. Victor Sawatzky at the Bergthal Church. They lived on a farm provided by his parents. Plowing and seeding the soil on his farm were a great pleasure to him. He often commented how he loved to ride on his tractor and sing at the top of his voice.

God gave us 16 years of marriage filled with many happy moments. Three of the highlights of our marriage were when the Lord permitted us to go to Topeka, Kan. three times to bring home a child that we could call our own. These children are Stanley, Roberta and Kevin. They have been a blessing in our home.

In December of 1962 Robert underwent surgery to have a hernia repaired. At this time it was discovered that he also had a rare tumor. We were relieved when we learned that it was not malignant. A week later he again underwent surgery to have the tumor removed.

After five years it became apparent that the tumor would need to be removed again. At this time it was reported to be somewhat malignant. It was removed four more times, once each year. With the Lord's help he was able to enjoy a fairly comfortable life until this past year when it became apparent that the tumor was wearing him down.

Last December 3 he entered the hospital for the fifth time. He came through the surgery well, but recovery was slow. On Jan. 30 he was released from the hospital and came home. It seemed for a while that his strength might come back, but on March 3 he began having intense pains. He suffered for eight days with almost unbearable pain but the Lord helped him through the week and in the evening of March 10 he went to be with the Lord, who had been his strength and guide through all his sufferings.

We are aware that many prayers were brought to the throne of Grace in his behalf by his relatives and friends. These were a great encouragement to him. We can say how good the Lord has been to us despite the illness and disappointments we have experienced in these 16 years together. From the time the first tumor was found to the time of his death, the Lord doubled our time together. We have shared many joys and sorrows, but God's loving kindness has sustained us through it all.

He leaves to mourn his wife and three children, and many relatives and friends. His parents preceded him to their heavenly Home. — Mrs. Robert Boese and Children.
