Photo back from Hilda (Ediger) Voth 2002 identifies subject to be "Peter Boese." Hilda Ediger Voth (1910-2004) was the daughter of Jacob B. (1876-1954) and Agatha Regier Ediger, missionaries in the Clinton, Oklahoma area from 1907-1947. Hilda grew up in Clinton, Oklahoma. She attended Bethel College, in North Newton, Kansas, Married R.D. Voth from Goessel, Kansas, and lived in the Goessel, Kansas area thereafter. She taught in several rural schools and eventually taught German at Moundridge High School until she retired.

Based on the approximate date of the photo (1889-1901) and the visual estimated age range of the subject (in his 20s), a search of the Grandma Online database for "Peter Boese" with birthdates from 1860-1890 yielded 17 people. Of these 17, 4 had connections to Buhler or Inman, Kansas, which would be in close proximity to Hutchinson, Kansas, where the photographer was located. All four were descendants of Gottlieb Boese (Grandma Online #10921). J.B. Ediger's date of birth falls in this range as well. A fifth "Peter Boese," also a descendent of Gottlieb Boese also falls into this age range but he lived in the Goessel, Kansas, area and there were other photography studios much closer than Hutchinson.

Connections to Peter Boese--
Note 1: Peter H. Boese 1869-1929 lived in the Little River, Kansas, area in the early years of his marriage. Jacob B. Ediger, father of Hilda Ediger Voth, went to the Little River Preparatory School 1890-1894, per J. B. Ediger's obituary on Find A Grave 30850608.
Note 2: Peter H. Boese 1876-1958, farmed in the Oklahoma panhandle for many years and was a charter member of the Mennonite Church in Turpin, Oklahoma. This is an Oklahoma connection to J.B. Ediger although his Cheyenne mission was a different area of the state.
Note 3: Peter F. Boese 1880-1960, had an older brother, Heinrich, who was one year older and who married Anna Ediger, a first cousin to Jacob B. Ediger, father of Hilda Ediger Voth. Heinrich and Anna Boese lived in the Corn, Oklahoma area, about 15 miles from Clinton, Oklahoma where J.B. Ediger's mission was located.
Note 4: Peter J. "Jay" Boese 1884-1951 might be a little young to be the subject of the photo, based on known dates of the photographer's location. He does have an Oklahoma connection, having been married in Meno, Oklahoma, and lived in that general area much of his married life.
