• Family members here received word of the death of Leon Noonan Boese, 60, of Medford, Ore., which occurred there Aug. 27. Funeral services were held Aug. 31 it Yoncalla, Ore. Mr. Boese, a native of the Halstead community, married Dorcas Eckstein in Newton in 1942. She survives with their two children, Sandra and Bruce; five brothers, Warren of Walton, Cecil of Kingman, and Howard, Dale and Wayne, all of Newton; three sisters, Irene Kaiser of Wellington, Dora Riley of Lubbock, Tex., and Jean Friesen of Pocatello, Ida.; and five grandchildren. A brother, Paul Boese of Newton, died July 7 of this year.
