Justina Martens Boese was born to Mr. and Mrs. David D. Martens of Buhler, Kansas April 22, 1899. Here she spent her childhood and moved with her parents to Hooker, Okla. in 1905. She experienced some of the hardships of the early settlers of this part of Oklahoma.

On March 28, 1920, she was united in marriage to Jake Boese of Lorena, Okla. with whom she shared joys and sorrows until her death. She was converted and baptized in1921, and joined the Friedensfeld Mennonite Church in Turpin, Okla.

They lived at Turpin for about five years after which they moved to Waka, Texas in 1925, and transferred their church membership to the Bethel Mennonite Church of Waka.

At Waka they moved on a farm where they experienced some of the difficulties of the early days, as well as the depression years of the thirties. However, the Lord blessed their efforts so that they came to better financial circumstances. The Lord blessed their home with one daughter and three sons.

Mrs. Boese was not too healthy and strong for some time, but was able to take care of her household duties. She became ill in Sept. 1955, and was taken to the Perryton Hospital on Sept. 24, where she remained the rest of her days with the exception of a few days when she was taken to Oklahoma City for a special check up.

She became paralyzed about a week after entering the hospital. During the days of her illness she suffered patiently, complaining very little. She was much in prayer, had hope for the future, and appreciated very much the deeds of kindness done for her, such as reading out of devotional books, from the Bible, and the singing of songs. She also was very thankful for visits, and appreciated those who stayed with her from time to time.

She was willing to help teach the children's Sunday school class, and was a member of the sewing circle of the church, where she took an active part, doing her work faithfully to help those in need.

Mrs. Boese passed from this life on Jan. 18, 1956, at about 5 o'clock P. M. She reached the age of 56 years and nine months.

She leaves to mourn her early departure her husband, Jake Boese; three sons, Eldon of Waka, Texas,Eugene of Hooker, Okla. and Arthur of Perryton, Texas; three daughters-in-law; five grandchildren, Orville and Tena, children of Mr. and Mrs Eldon Boese; Jimmy, Jakie and Danny, children of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Boese; two brothers, Dan Martens of Adams, Okla. and Arnold Martens of Lodi, Calif.;three sisters, Mrs. C. J. Voth of Clayton, N. M., Mrs. John Neal and Miss Katie Martens of Guymon, Okla.

One infant daughter, her parents, one brother, two sisters and two grandsons preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Perryton, Texas on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 22. Rev. John Harder, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. C. D. Boese of Walton, Kansas. Burial was made in the Ochiltree Cemetery.
