JACOB M. BOESE

Jacob M. Boese, son of Martin and father, son of Martin [sic] and Kathryn Schultz Boese, was born Sept. 28, 1882, at Springfield, So. Dak. Here he grew to manhood and received his early training. Later he attended Freeman College for two years.

After homesteading in the Vona, Colo. Mennonite Community for several years, he returned to make his home in the Springfield community.

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized upon his confession of faith on May 26, 1901. He was united with the Friedensberg Mennonite Church near Avon, So. Dak., of which he remained a faithful member until his death.

On May 11, 1916, he was married to Lillie Koehn. This union ended upon her early death on Sept. 11, 1917. Father was united in marriage to Anna Schartner on Sept. 1, 1918. Four children were born to this union.

Our parents were actively engaged in farming near Springfield, So. Dak. Trying times were experienced at times, but the Lord blessed and prospered their labors when the better years returned after the drouth [sic] in the 1930's. In February 1953 father and mother retired and moved to Freeman, S. D.

Although he had discovered recently that he had diabetes, he enjoyed good health until Wednesday morning, May 22, 1957, at 2:00 a. m. when he suffered severe pains and was taken to the Freeman Hospital. Unexpected death came at 4 p. m. when he had a heart attack. He reached the age of 74 years, seven months and 23 days.

He was a true and devoted Christian husband and father. He was always interested in what the family was doing and the grandchildren were his pride and joy. He spent much time in reading and was interested in church and community affairs.

The last three months, he cared for our mother, who suffered a stroke in February. Although our hearts are saddened that his departure was so sudden, our hope and comfort rest in his eternal happiness with his Saviour Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; three brothers, Abraham, Ben, and David; six sisters, Annie, Marie, Elizabeth, Susie, Eva, and Caroline.

He leaves to mourn his departure his bereaved wife, Anna Boese; four children, Martha, Mrs. Ernest Tschetter of Freeman, S. D., Noah Norman and Ruben of Springfield, S. D., Marie of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Margaret, Mrs. Noah Norman Boese; one son-in-law, Ernest Tschetter; six grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn McNeeley of Minneapolis, Minn. and Emma, Mrs. Henry Ewert of Reedley, Calif.; two brothers, Tobias of Intercession City, Fla. and Peter of Saginaw, Mich. and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 26 at the Friedensburg [sic Friedensberg] Mennonite Church near Avon, S. D. where he was laid to rest in the Friedensburg [sic Friedensberg] cemetery.
