ANDREW L. BOESE

Andrew L. Boese, son of Andrew and Helena (Fast) Boese, was born Feb. 8, 1885 near Goessel, Kansas. He was brought up in a Christian home and found the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour as a young man. In March 1903 he was baptized and received into the fellowship of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

On March 15, 1906 he was married to Agnes Gossen [sic Goossen]. To this union were born two sons and two daughters. This union was dissolved on April 15, 1912 when his wife passed away.

On Feb. 28, 1913 he was united in marriage to Tina Jost and they made their home at Lehigh, Kansas. This union was blessed with 48 years of happy companionship and four sons and one daughter. In 1920 they moved to Inman, Kansas where he engaged in farming and carpenter work. About seven years later they moved back to the Hillsboro community and affiliated with the Gnadenau church. Later when they lived near the Ebenfeld M. B. church they fellowshipped there. After retiring to Hillsboro they again joined the Gnadenau M. B. church.

He found joy in serving in various capacities in the church. At different times he served as choir director and the Sunday school. He faithfully led his family in the reading of the Bible and in prayer every morning and evening. He sang often as he went about his work, giving expression to his joy in the Lord.

He enjoyed good health throughout life. Recently he had experienced some difficulty and underwent surgery on April 1, 1961. For a time it seemed that he had hope of recovery but his condition worsened and he lapsed into a coma three days before his passing on April 21, 1961 at the Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. He reached the age of 76 years.

He leaves to mourn, his wife; five sons, Elmer of Hillsboro, Andrew of Burns, Melvin of Wichita, Henry of Sullivan city, Texas, Ezra of Marion, two daughters, Agnes, Mrs. Art Bartel of Greensburg, Kansas, and Lois, Mrs. Wallace Loewen of Peabody; 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, George, of Buhler, Kansas. His first wife, a daughter at the age of eight and a son at the age of five months preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held April 24 at the Gnadenau M. B. Church, with Walter Sclichting, G. W. Lohrenz and C. D. Boese officiating. Burial was made in the Lehigh M. B. Cemetery. — The Family.
