Abram M. Boese.

Abram M. Boese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin B. Boese, was born on May 12, 1876, near Springfield, S. Dak. He passed away on the evening of October 25, 1933, in his home near Vona, Colo., at the age of 57 years, 5 months, and 13 days. On June 29, 1889, he was united in marriage to Emma Elizabeth Buller near Springfield, S. D. They lived a short life of 34 years together. They made their home at Springfield for the first eight years of married life, but came to Vona, Colo., Oct. l7, 1907, taking up their abode on the homestead south of Vona, Colo. Here they lived until his death.

This union was blessed with six children, Mamie, now Mrs. R. J. Voigt of Tyndall, S. D.; Helen, now Mrs. J. H. Kindsvater of Coldwater, Kans.; Andrew, Kathryn, Joseph, and Clara at home. They were all present to see their father laid to his last resting place.

Mr. Boese became a Christian in his youth. He was baptized by Rev. Christian Kaufman on May 14, 1894, when he joined the church. He remained a member at Springfield until the church was organized south of Vona, Colo., when he transferred his membership to this church of which he has been a staunch and steadfast ember. As leader of the Sunday School and alter as teacher of the Bible class he always put Christ first, until he was called to his reward. He was a true, devoted Christian, a kind loving husband and father.

When a young man he attended Springfield Normal College at Springfield, S. D., for two years. This education enabled him to make himself useful in the church and community.

At the age of 21 he was elected a member of the school board and at the same time also became a member of the church board. He has been active in this work ever since — a span of 30 years. He was one of those who always put their shoulder to the wheel to make things go. He was instrumental in having a Sunday school organized here, also a school in this community, and the first to build a church. His motto was, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God". We feel we have lost a friend and a helper who will be missed, but we want to submit to God's plan, for God saw fit to call him home. He leaves to mourn his dear wife, six children, four grandchildren, an aged mother, 78 years old, five brothers, Ben M. of Denver Colo., David M. of Wisner, Neb.; Tobias M., Jacob M., and Peter M. of Springfield, S. D.; three sisters, Mrs. Susie Richert, Richey, Mont.; Mrs. Katherine McNeely, Yankton, S. D.; and Mrs. Emma Ewert, Mountain Lake, Minn., and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services at the home were led by Rev. H. U. Schmidt of Menno, Okla., who read John 14:1 - 8. At the church Rev. J. H. Epp, Hillsboro, Kan., and Rev. J. F. Staff of Vona spoke, and Rev. J. R. Duerksen from Limon, Colo., led at the gave. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."

A few of Mr. Boese's favorite songs were sung, the first two named at the home: "In his Sunlight" "Stepping in the Light," "Blessed Assurance," "O think of the Home over there", and "Rock of Ages" at the grave. The singers were John Warrick, E. R. Deaken, Mrs. Oneta Cary, and Mrs. Amelia Howell. As the family were surrounding their beloved for the last time the three sisters, Ruth, Martha and Marie Duerksen sang "Does Jesus care", and "Jesus Will", Pallbearers were Claud Mitchell, martin Nelson, Steve Card, J. F. Flower, Charley Cary, and D. J. Tanner. Flower girls: Charlotte Mitchell, Lavern Moser, Helen Adams, and Lola Warrick. We mourn not as those who have no hope.
