Jacob H. Boehs

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jacob H. Boehs, was born August 23, 1858, in the village of Antonofka, Poland Russia. In 1875 he with his parents came to America. in his youth he spent about three years working in Illinois.

Then he came to Kansas, later made his home in Marion County. He was united in marriage to Susanna Koehn, August 5, 1884. To this union 11 children were born, six sons and five daughters. In 1893 he with his family came to Oklahoma settling on a farm where he resided at the time of his death. He being one of the first o settle in the new country, has gone through many harships of pioneer life.

During this time he felt the Saviour's call and repenting of his sins found remission through the blood of Christ and was added to the Church of god, in Christ, Mennonite, in 1903. He was baptized by the late Minister Henry Heer. Father remained a faithful member until his death.

On February 21, 1904, his beloved companion was taken from his side through death,leaving him a widower with eight children.

Then March 12, 1905, he was united in marriage to Anna Koehn. To this union one son and four daughters were born.

Father usually enjoyed good health with few exceptions and was a hard worker. The last few years it was noticed that his health was declining. He lived a God-fearing life, was much concerned for us all that we should live so that we may reach that blessed home in Heaven.

He was bedfast about two weeks, his suffering being intense. But he bore it all very patiently. Sugar diabetes caused his death. He has left us the assurance that he has gone to the Heavenly Home as he often expressed himself as ready to die and longed to be released from all suffering. He passed away January 2, 1942, having reached the age of 83 years, four months and 10 days. Two sons, five daughters, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.

Father leaves to mourn, his beloved companion, five sons, Henry and John of Ringwood, Ben, Sam and Pete of Fairview, four daughters, Mrs. Frank Wedel of Little River, Kansas, Mrs. Jonas Schmidt and Mrs. Oscar Unruh of Fairview and Mrs. Emil Schmidt of Homestead, 66 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and a host of relatives and friends.

Death has robbed us of our father
Whom we loved and cherished dear;
It was father, yes, dear father;
Can we help but shed a tear?

Yes, we miss him. Oh! we miss him!
When we see his vacant chair;
And how sad the room without him,
For there is no father there.

Oft we think we hear him coming;
Coming through the open door.
Then we tearfully remember,
Father will come back no more.

Father's work on earth is ended,
Faithful the cross he bore
Now his loving soul's ascended
Over to fair Canaan's shore.

Farewell, dear Father, your labors are o'er,
Your willing hands will toil no more;
Peaceful be thy slumber, they rest be sweet,
Our circle is broken, our home incomplete.
