Pastor, theologian, founder of charitable organizations, one to help people with epilepsy, which was expanded to include all others who were handicapped, and another organization which collected used clothing to repair and resell. Most of his activity was for the purpose of helping the needy. Known as Friedrich von Bodelschwingh the Elder. His son, Friedrich von Bodelschwingh the Younger was very popular and continued his father's work, refusing to comply with instructions from the Nazis during WWII and getting away with it because of his popularity with the German people.
