— Funeral services are to be held at the First Mennonite church Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Katherine H. Black, 50, who passed away at her home here or Monday. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Susie Albrecht of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Hamm of Hillsboro and Mrs. Della Buller of Newton; one son, Fred of Wakita, Okla.; and three sisters and three brothers.

MRS. KATHERINE BLACK

Katherine Helen (Albrecht) Black, daughter of Ferdinand and Susie Adrian Albrecht, was born at 407 S. W. 4th Street, Newton, Kansas on July 30, 1900, and passed away at her home on Monday, October 2, 2:12 a. m. at the age of 50 years, two months and two days.

She spent her entire life in this community, and attended school at McKinley grade school and Newton high school.

On May 27, 1917, she was baptized by Elder Jacob Toevs and received in the membership of the First Mennonite church and remained a member of this church until the time of her death.

On May 9, 1923, she was united in marriage to Clinton C. Black. To this union three children were born, two daughters, Ruth Evelyn and Della Mae, and one son, Fred Edward. On June 12, 1947, her husband preceded her in death leaving her and the three children to mourn his death.

Since then she underwent some surgery and has had frequent illness which she bore without complaining and with the hope of again regaining full health. She was devoted to her family, to her mother, and her sisters.

She was a member of the Post Office Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She leaves to mourn her departure three children, Ruth Evelyn (Mrs. Theo. Hamm) Hillsboro, Della Mae. (Mrs. Peter Buller), Newton, and Fred Edward, Waketa, Okla.; three grandchildren, Clinton Edward Hamm, Allen Lee Hamm, and Larry Geen Buller; her aged mother, Mrs. Susie Albrecht; three sisters and three brothers, Helen, Mrs. Leonard Claassen, Susie, Mrs. Chris B. Stucky, both of Newton, Mrs. Gertrude Applegate, Kelso, Washington, John F. Albrecht, Portland, Oregon, Henry C. Albrecht, Medford, Oregon and G. P. Toews, Alden, Pa.

Se [sic] will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 2:30 p. m. at the First Mennonite church of Newton, Rev. D. J. Unruh and Rev. J. E. Entz were in charge. A quartet composed of Irvin Goertzen, Hilmar Voth, Karl Busenitz and Art Wall sang “Abide With Me" and “Nearer My God to Thee." The organist was Mrs. Edith Harms.

Paul bearers were Edgar Adrain, Comic Adrain, Philip Adrain, John Adrain, Alvin Heidebrecht and Ben Duerksen.
