Bergthold. -- Am 14. August starb Jakob Bergthold in seiner Heimat zu Reedley, Cal., im Alter von 67 Jahren, 4 Monaten und 3 Tagen. Er wurde geboren in Rosenberg, Oesterreich, am 11. April 1845, verehelichte sich mit Barbara Linscheid im Jahre 1868. Im Mai 1883 zog er mit seiner Familie nach Amerika und wohnte 21 Jahre in Minnesota. Im Jahre 1904 zog er mit seiner Familie nach Reedley, Cal. Vor einem Jahre erkrankte er an einem innerlichen Leiden, welches auch durch eine Operation, der er sich unterzog, nicht geheilt werden konnte. Er trug sein Leiden geduldig mit Ergebung in den Willen Gottes. Der Trauergottesdienst fand am 16. August in der Mennonitenkirche statt. Br. Krehbiel redete Worte des Trostes an die Trauernden in deutscher Sprache und hielt eine kurze Predigt in englischer Sprache über 4. Mose 23, 10. Der Verstorbene hinterläßt seine Gattin, 5 Söhne, 2 Schwestern, 7 Enkel und viele andere Verwandte und Freunde, seinen Tod zu betrauern. Er war ein treues Glied der Gemeinde.

'Berghold. [sic Bergthold] — On August 14 in his home in Reedley, Calif., died Jacob Bergthold, aged 67 years, 4 months and 3 days. He was born in Rosenberg, Austria, April 11, 1845. In 1868 he married Barbara Linscheid. In May 1883 he moved with his family to America, lived 21 years in Minnesota and moved in 1904 with his family to Reedley, Calif. A year ago he contracted an internal disease which was not cured by an operation which he underwent. He bore his sufferings patiently being resigned to the will of God. Funeral services were held on the 16. in the Mennonite church. Bro. Krehbiel spoke words of comfort to the bereaved in the German language and held a short English sermon on Num. 23. 10. He is survived by his wife, 5 sons, 2 sisters, 7 grandchildren and many friends and relatives to moun his death. He was a faithful member of his congregation.
