CORNELIUS BERGMANN
Cornelius Bergmann, son of Peter P. and Helena (Voth) Bergmann, was born on May 12, 1995 near Hillsboro, Kan. and died after a lingering illness on Sept. 28, 1966. He reached the age of 81 years, four months and 17 days.
At the age of nine years he with his parents settled on a homestead near Corn, Okla. Here he attended school under the instruction of Christian teachers. At the age of 15 he was baptized and received into the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church where he remained a faithful member.
On May 15, 1921 he entered holy matrimony with Anna Thiessen of Gotebo, Okla. at her home. Five children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy.
The influence and training of the Corn Bible Academy, of which he was the first graduate, became a great blessing throughout his life. He served his community as a Christian school teacher for seven years. He served as board member of the academy for 10 years, church secretary for 10 years, and as Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. He served with dedication to his Lord and Master.
Father, along with his parents, experienced many hardships in the pioneer days in Kansas and later in Oklahoma. His disappointments and losses were accepted as stepping stones in his Christian faith.
Father's health began to fail rapidly during the last year. On May 9, 1966 his condition became worse and he was taken to the Cordell Memorial Hospital. Medical help was also sought in Oklahoma City. As he improved father was taken to the Home for the Aged in Corn, Okla. On July 8 he was moved to the Cordell Hospital where he remained untill [sic] the Lord permitted him to enter into his eternal rest.
Mourning his passing are his wife, Anna, and their children, Paul Bergmann, Ruth, Mrs. Wesley Dick, and Naemi, Mrs. Sam Gossen; one daughter-in-law; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, John Bergmann and Isaac Bergmann; two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Duerksen and Mrs. C. F. Reimer, all living near Corn, Okla.
