• Funeral services were conducted at the First Mennonite Church on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16, for Mrs. Elizabeth Jantzen Bergman, 78, widow of Abraham Bergman. Rev. Arnold Epp, the pastor, officiated. A resident of the Bethel Home for Aged, Mrs. Bergman died on Dec. 13. She had been a resident of Newton since 1917. Surviving are a sister, Sister Rose Jantzen of the Bethel Home; a step-son, C. F. Bergman of Newton; and two step-daughters.

ELIZABETH JANTZEN BERGMAN

Mrs. Elizabeth Jantzen Bergman, daughter of John F. and Elizabeth Penner Janzen was born in Pittsburg, Neb., May 7, 1884. Together with the family she came to Newton, Kan., in 1917.

She accepted the Lord as her Saviour at the age of 15, and was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Christ by the late Rev. Henry Voth on Mountain Lake, Minn.

In 1924 she was married to Abraham Bergman. They enjoyed happy home life for about 25 years, when Mr. Bergman went to be with the Lord. Since then she and her sister, Rose, have made their home together in Newton.

Mrs. Bergman transferred her membership to the First Mennonite Church in Newton and continued as a faithful member, attending services as long as she was able. During the last year Mrs. Bergman has not been well. She suffered quietly and always retained a spirit of Christian love and consideration for others. Her faith in the goodness of the Lord and her sense of humor were always an encouragement. She rejoiced especially to participate for the last time in the Lord's Supper on Saturday, Dec. 1, 1962 in her room in the Bethel Home for Aged.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, at 12:15 her often-expressed wish and longing was satisfied when she quietly went to be with the Lord. Only one sister of the immediate family remains behind, Sister Rose of the Bethel Deaconess Home. Surviving too are three step-children, C. F. Bergman of Newton, Mrs. Agnes Wohlgemuth of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Lena Funk of Littlefield, Texas.
