ARTHUR BERGMAN

Arthur Bergman entered this earthly life on March 20, 1893, in El Reno, Okla. From Oklahoma he moved to Canada. On May 12, 1914, Arthur confessed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and was received into the fellowship of the Church by baptism at the Zoar Mennonite Church, Langham, Sask.

On August 16, 1925, in Marion County, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Margaretha Schmidt.

He brought his bride to Wichita, Kansas, where he had moved a year before the marriage. Here they have lived ever since. In 1932, Mr. and Mrs. Bergman became charter members of the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church, where they have been faithful members for the full history of this church. In this church, in 1950, they celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.

Mr. Bergman was in normal health until a few years go, when he had surgery and at that time experienced some type of heart attack. A year ago, he suffered many sudden attacks, for which doctors could find no complete answer. Late in the summer and through the months of fall and winter, he seemed to live a much more normal life again.

However, on Friday, Feb. 13, Mrs. Bergman found him in the garage, having suffered an attack of some kind. He was rushed to the hospital, but before anything could be done, he had slipped from this earthly life to the life beyond, having reached the age of a little over a month less than 66 years.

Mr. Bergman had been a carpenter. “Now the laborer's task is o'er,” and the suddenness of his passing makes us think about the contrast between the impermanence of the life and work of man and the everlastingness of God.
