Mrs. Dan Berger

Halstead, Kansas, May 22nd — Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel Berger who passed away at her home southwest of town about 5 o'clock last Tuesday morning after an illness of a year with heart trouble, were held from the Mennonite Church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. H. T. Unruh officiating. A quartet composed of Miss Ana Auernheimer, Miss Edna Ruth, Bernard P. Krehbiel and Elmer Dettweiler, accompanied by Will Schowalter at the piano sang several selections. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful which with the many frends [sic] in attendance was evidence of the love held for this good woman who was suddenly called from their midst.

Mrs. Berger had not been in good health the past year, having experienced several heart attacks which she knew would result in death at any moment, but regardless of the inevitable doom o'erhanging, she never complained and remained cheerful until the end.

She was a kind and loving wife, and a true companion to her children. She was a lover of her home where her absence will be poignantly felt by her bereaved husband and children as well as by a host of friends who were frequent and welcome visitors at her fireside.

Karoline Muller, youngest daughter of Daniel and Magdaline Muller, was born at Ebenfeld, Austria, on the 8th day of July, 1875. At the age of eight years she came to America with her parents who made their home near Halstead for a time.

At the age of fifteen she was baptized by Rev. John Gerbrandt and united with the Johannesthal Mennonite Church near Hillsboro, Kans. On Feb. 23, 1902 she was united in marriage to Mr. Daniel Berger and united with the Halstead Mennonite Church on June 15, 1924 of which she was a member until her death.

Five children were born to this union, four of whom live to mourn the loss of a mother: Walter D., Milton J., Hilda C., and Daniel W., who are living with their father on the farm southwest of Iowa. Two sisters, Mrs. W. D. Fast, of Moundridge, Mrs. R. J.Hubin, N. Dak., and three brothers, Ed. Muller of this city, E. W. Muller of Hutchinson, P. E. Muller of Colorado, and a host of relatives and friends — Halstead Independent.
